Large Decorative Wall Maps – If you like vintage design decorating then look at hanging some of your selections on the wall. Walls make a great “service” not just for pictures but three-dimensional objects as well. Hanging pictures and graphics is tricky, but as soon as you let yourself experimentation you can have a ball producing exciting displays. Unless an object is large or a painting is notable, one little picture hung by itself seems lonely. Pairs and groupings work better. Mounting them in a line gave the room a more contemporary look. You can also pile pictures two on top and two on the underside or alternative combinations of numbers.
When things share something in common they form a pleasing ensemble. One collector showed me how she grouped dozens of vintage wedding photos of couples together. Since each one the photos had a subject to them, they formed an intriguing collection. The brownish tone of all of these classic photos served to arrange the collection providing a harmonious visual demonstration. Another avid collector of 1950’s ” Paint By Number” photos covered his counseling office wall with his assortment of those funky colorful framed retro art bits.
Many whimsical collectibles can be found in flea markets and also make for interesting “art” when displayed in classes. A large collection of little flea market paintings with different frames can work well if the general look is a wall full of similar sized eyeglasses. Within this formation, you’re spacing pictures equally apart but organizing them as you would a jigsaw puzzle.
This type of mounting works well on the walls bordering staircases. Three-dimensional objects can be included in a profound plexiglass shadow box frame and mounted on the wall. Old seats, boxes, miniature dressers can also be used as “shelves” and hung on walls to display collectibles and other interesting finds. You do not have to adhere to one “fashion” or layout period. Add vintage to urban or modern chic to classic.
Older objects and pictures warm-up chambers, while more contemporary accessories supply a clean crisp look. Add the unexpected to your own walls and sit back an enjoy your layout work. The very best aspect of wall decoration is that it can be changed so easily whenever you’re ready for a brand new idea.
